I actually did it while my face was still under the towel and because my face was so wet from the steam it did not cause any problems with suction removal or anything, like it did when I tried it the other way (which DID leave little red marks). I will say that it did NOT work the way the instructions say to use it, and I don't know what possessed me to try it the way I did, but it DID work that way and my face was so much smoother and cleaner. My face was a little red (from the steam, too, I suppose) but I put a little aloe on it and it was just fine the next day. I do this 3 times a week and my skin looks great now. It was definitely worth MY $20.
