The book is great. I don't care what any of the complaints say, the book is worth it. As a college student, I understand the importants of saving money and it really helped me find more federal aid and scholarships for my college costs. BUY IT!

My Wife and I purchased Free Money to Change Your Life, in the late '90's to find government assistance for our home repairs. After reading the information in the book, we actually were able to have repairs done on our home on Uncle Sam's dime! Mr. Lesko presents valuable information to everyday ordinary people in a simple to understand manner! If you can order a copy, I highly recommend it, if not, thye have them at the library!

I do agree with the post that if you are white and male, nothing listed is of much value. BUT what Lesko's book did do for me is open my eyes up to grants and have atleast a starting point to get going. Prior to looking at Lesko's book, I had no idea what was out there in government grants and no idea where to start. I do have a 4 year degree (which was paid mostly through loans) and when I was in high school, in my senior year, I was bugging my high school counsilor weekly about what I need to be doing for financial aid and scholarships. Nearly all the scholarships that went through that office (and most I applied to) ended up going to the three kids in our class who's parents brown-nosed the school staff the most! In college, all the financial aid I was offered was stafford loans (offered to everyone) and a few academic merit scholarships (which I found out was standard offering for people with my high school GPA). Whenever I asked for more information about scholarships and grants from people who should know (like counsilors, financial aid officers, etc.), I was just refered to scholarship websites that were BS. Granted, Lesko's book isn't great if you already know what is out there, but if you don't and keep getting the run around when you ask people who should know, it is great!

I have ordered a couple of the books as well as have ordered other things from infomercials and online. The infomercials often offer special pricing promotions and if you do not order in the specified time frame or mention that you saw it on the infomercial you dont get the discounted price or the "free extras" they are notrious for on infomercials. As far as being over charged that might have been something they would have fixed if you called back and explained your problem. (i have waited more than 20 minutes on tech support for many things, its life these days) As far as the books being common knowledge, I think its more a matter of Matthew Leskos book series is like an encylopedia... most of the information in them is available else where BUT when you need to know an answer its much easier to have 1 book or 1 set of books to turn to instead of having to go research everything yourself, isnt it? You are paying for his insight as well as the information having been researched and indexed all in one place for you. Some of the numbers are outdated since government changes so quickly but you can easily get new numbers by asking the other agencies for them. This series isnt an end all, guarenteed grant giver.. but if you are seriously looking for a grant I wouldnt go at it without a copy.

The complaint story from Tristan which I read on this site makes no sense. First the book is $37.95 plus $6.95 shipping. He states being quoted two other prices and being billed a third, and never being quoted the correct price. This is not how the customer service line for Matthew Lesko works. They know the prices of their products and they do not vary. They certainly do not bill higher priceds than the list price. In addition, there is rarely a wait on this line longer than a couple of minutes. The story does not add up. Sounds like a generally unhappy person with an alterior motive. By the way this book is great. Try it! A happy customer of Matthew Lesko.
