I am in full agreement with almost everyone here, the Vonage service is pretty good. I have had Vonage for about 5 years and in the early years there were problems, stuttering, dropped calls, weird noises etc. However in the last 2 to 3 years the service has been rock solid. NO billing problems, I signed up for the 12 month program at $20 per month. I thoroughly enjoy the mailings form the "NEW ATT" asking me to come back to them and pay a higher price for the priviledge. As a retired Cisco Sys Engr. I spent several years working exclusively with Ameritech in Chicago on their extensive network that uses hundreds of Cisco high end routers. I found out what rotten, arrogant, useless companies they are. If you have any dispute with them over their dubious and sometimes downright illegal practises their attitude is "sue us, we have more lawyers than you can count". So any chance I get to stick it to them I do.
If you analyze the problems of those who have complaints with Vonage, you will find that the fault almost always lies with the user or the ISP. Networking is a very complex technology, how many times do you hear a complainer say "well my brother told me !@# and he works with computers". His brother usually turns out to be a data entry clerk. You cannot expect to be able to use complex technology if you can't even find the on/off button and stop listening to your idiot brother.
I like Vonage IT WORKS.

I had Vonage for over two years. I never had issues with call quality and for all the features it was a much better deal than my local phone company. I only ever had one service issue, which turned out to be an equipment problem with my VOIP router. And although we had to go through the same troubleshooting I'd just done on my own, the rep was courteous and was able to resolve the issue fairly quickly.

It would be nice if they made it easier to cancel but it was not too difficult. I only canceled because I got a package deal from another provider that included phone service. If I'm not happy with my new provider at the end of my contract, I'll switch back to Vonage.

I don't think Vonage belongs here. First, I don't think they even use infomercials. Second, and more importantly, although several people here have valid customer service complaints, that's not a scam.

I have had Vonage for 3+yrs. I know 3 people at work with Vonage.
I hooked up my parents home with vonage as well. We have had no real issues.
My parents modem failed (not a Vonage problem).
This caused an outage for about a week. Once [] internet replaced the modem all was well.
One of my friends at work had many issues of droped calls and bad reception.
I stoped by and re wired/configured his routers so the Vonage router was primary. No more issues.
I cant fault Vonage for a bad modem from [] or someone not using there Vonage router the correct way.
My bill went from $39.99 + .03 per call local only.
I think I am getting a great deal.

I just recently bought a new computer for my wife (hers died). The new computer had Vista, so neither of us were familiar with the problems that might occur.

We couldn't connect the new computer to the internet. The store we bought it from wanted us to call a perminute cost tech support...

[] computer tech said he couldn't figure out what was wrong, and would send out a tech...

Vonage spent about 35 minutes on the phone with me, and solved the problem, and explained what was going on.

The kicker? It was in no way a Vonage router problem, but they spent 35 minutes of service time walking me through my own computer ignorance.

Also, if you're having reception problems, stop downloading and try again.

I've had a Vonage line at home since August or September of 2006. I've never had a serious issue. Any problems I can recall have had more to do with either my cable internet provider or my own misconfiguration of my home cable router.

I suspect many issues have to do with an ISP or similar router problem. My D-Link "GameFuel" router is basically a QoS router, and I'm able to give the Vonage device priority over all other internet traffic.

Though I use it almost exclusively for outgoing calls as I work from home most days, I have no problem with incoming calls. The simultaneous ring feature rings both the Vonage line and my personal cell phone together. If I answer the Vonage line, I can easily transfer it to any other number. I've also used the Call Forwarding feature to forward to my international mobile number while traveling and while I of course must pay for the international call, it works flawlessly. I also love the voicemail feature that allows messages to be delivered as email attachments - works great when I travel overseas and need quick access to my home voicemail without calling back to the US.

I have the Vonage for almost 2 years and actually I am very happy with their service. I have added international calling plan and since then I have been making all the international call almost all over the globe for only $15.00 dollars more. What a deal. I will recommend the service to anyone. I\'ll urge to everyone for one thing only and that is please read and listen every thing they say before sign up. Thank you.

I've had Vonage service for about 2 years now. I have not had any outages or problems that couldn't be traced back to my internet connection. The connection is clear and the web interface is easy to use.

I have been using the Vonage service for over 4 yrs. and could not be happier. I know what me bill will be every month and with a teenage daughter in the house with many out of state friends the service has saved me hundreds of dollars. I have not tried to cancel my account so I dont know about those problems.

I have been a Vonage customer for almost 2 years now. We have had two different addresses. My family has had absolutely no problems with Vonage and their service. The calls are clear and the best part of the service is that you can manage everything from your computer. Vonage logs every incoming and outgoing call, so you will always hav e the phone numbers you needed if you forgot to write down who just called You can access your voice mail online. And the best part of vonage is if you go to another country for a day or a week or a year you can take your vonage router with you and still receive local calls from the United States on your local number. How 'bout them apples :)

I have had Vonage for the past three years, and I love it! I have no complaints about the service. The price has stayed at $30 for the past three years, so the commercial that states, No Shell Games, is absolutely correct! My local cable company plays the shell game, where they'll offer a set price for one of their services for a year, and then after the year is up, will charge you three times what you were originally paying. They keep wanting to bundle phone service into my package, but I refuse to do so.

Their customer service is good too, even though sometimes you will get a foreign c/s rep. they helped me with technical problems twice, where there service and equipment were NOT at fault, better than my cable company or the company for my computer router did!

I too am surprised at the vehement tirades I've read here concerning Vonage. The few times I've contacted them the service as been polite and totally acceptable. The traditional phone companies can't touch their prices for services rendered.

I have a high speed cable connection and Vonage performance is the equal of land line. I would never consider trying to use Vonage with DSL or Satelite; they're too slow.

The problems I've had with Vonage were related to my ISP. If they go down or muck with their system, Vonage may need to be disconnected, powered down, and then restarted. They tell you that in their manual and the same is true for any computers running on cable. When Vonage detects my system is down, all calls are transferred to my cell phone so nothing is lost in real time.

I am at a loss to explain why people have such diametrically opposed views to the same service. I have noted that much 24/7 Customer Service tends to degrade during "off" hours. I call during US business hours and if I don't get the answer I want I call back later and talk to somebody else. It works to my advantage almost every time.

I called and signed up for Vonage. The representative was very polite. Within an hour after getting off the phone with them I found out that my security system in my house was incompatible with Vonage. So I immediately called Vonage back and they were very courtious and understanding and promply refunded my money and cancelled my account.

I have had the service for almost 2 years and have had very few problems. I had a lighting strike and it blew the box. Vonage credited me $40 to buy a new one. We also have a few issues calling Eastern Europe, but then again we had problems with the standard phone company with that anyway. All in All I would recommend this service to anybody. You do have to have high Speed Internet and I would recommend cable over DSL.

I've had Vonage for over two years and for the most part am pleased with the service. My main problems have been loss of the phone service due to my cable company and NOT Vonage. During the two years that I've had the service I've had almost no problems with the actual services itself. I did finally have one problem in that the Vonage box died and I had to get it replaced. The Vonage tech said they would ship me one free or I could go to a local store and buy one and they would credit me $40. I opted for the second option and I received the credit on the next bill. We did have a problem when we used the Vonage connection for faxing, but their tech support made an adjustment on the box and we've not had a problem since. Is it perfect? No. But for the money that I pay and the features I get it's hard to beat. No one knows that I am not talking on a traditional POTS line from my local phone company.

I\'ve been perfectly with the service for about a year. The only difficulty that arises is when my darned comcast cable connection crashes, so I have to reset the phone device, too. My son, a computer professional, also uses Vonage and recommended that I do so. It provides significant savings compared to our local phone company in Albuquerque, Qwest.

What people fail to realize is there can be some latency due to internet gateway conditions. One person complaining about the product was using Hughes and wireless Sat. internet is very, very slow compared to Cable and a good DSL connection, hence latency and flutter will happen. There product is just as good as anyone out there offering VOIP but hence another caveat. Your cable/isp provider monitors your bandwidth use and once exceeded will throttle down your speed to that of dialup. The bottomline is , it's cheaper and reliable to go with your broadband supplier than use an outside service. Read your User Agreement, they do monitor your bandwidth useage and can throttle you back to the point where no VOIP provider other than them will be a suitable product. Don't blame Vonage or whomever if you're using your ISP to provide access that isn't in your user agreement! Bottomline: don't badmouth without finding the reason for the lack of consistent service.

I\\\'ve been using Vonage for almost 4 years now through 3 addresses, over 2 different ISP\\\'s. It has always worked flawlessly. I had one problem with billing, and it was a simple misunderstanding that was cleared up quickly and professionally. The technical requirements are laid out very plainly on the Vonage website, and if you don\\\'t understand them you should probably consult someone who does...that doesn\\\'t mean some phone monkey at the Vonage 800 number, they\\\'re just working from a script. You can\\\'t beat the service or the price. Most of the problems I see here are from people who apparently don\\\'t keep track of their finances well, or are expecting something from the service that it isn\\\'t capable of. Other than that there are typical customer service issues that you see with any large business. I\\\'m not sure why this is on an infomercial website, Vonage doesn\\\'t have infomercials, they have regular advertisements. AT&T doesn\\\'t have a page here, they\\\'re a phone company that advertises on TV too.

We have this service since June 2006 and we are very satisfied. We have cable and vonage works like a charm. They transferred our number 2days faster than they said they would. I am not impressed with their customer service, because before we switched to Vonage we had some questions and the rep did not quite understand. But the website gave us the answers. The only hiccup we had, was, when our cable modem folded. But that was not Vonage's fault and the calls were forwarded to the correct cell phone number during the outage. We love this service.

I have had Vonage service since December of 2004. The only problem I've ever had ,beside the usual cable service not being up to par, is that the adapter could't lock on the Vonage servers any more after 2 years...bad adapter. They offered to send me a new one but I wanted a wireless adapter. So I went out and bought my own wireless adapter. Put the new adapter onto my account with no problem. I've never had to cancel my account with them nor do I have the inclination to..the phone service is great. I got my mother to sign up with them too. She loves it as well. Also, I do want to add that phone lines in the house are set up in parallel. That means a signal going into the phone jack will be receieved by every phone jack in your house. Just plug the adapter into a phone jack and the service is available through out your house!

I've had vonage service for over a year and a half. I can't complain about anything. It always works and it works well. The only service outage I have is when my cable service goes down. Even then, it detects this and forwards to my cell automatically. I'm saving about $30 per month with this service compaired to my old phone service. Worth every penny.
