I was skeptical at first when my tech geek husband brought home the Vonage Phone Service package. How were we to have phone service through our internet? I should mention that we have cable internet and not DSL. Being the wonderful tech geek he is, he had the whole thing up and going quite quickly. I'm not so sure I could have done it as quick, but it did look like the directions were clear and I feel fairly confident that I could have done it. Our first month's bill was 4X less than the BIG phone company. 4X, I was sold just by that. All of my family is long distance and most of my friends. I hated waiting till 7 or 9 or the weekend to use my cellphone. I talk during the day and work at night. There were a few kinks at first such as static, but we decided it was our old cordless phone, we bought a new one with 3 handsets 5.4 GHz and everything has been working GREAT! It has been over a year now and I have not missed the old big phone company and their OUTRAGEOUS prices! I LOVE Vonage! It has saved us about $1500.00 in one year! That's an extra house payment or a small vacation!

My service with Vonage started out a little bumpy, as we didn't really understand how to hook it up or how to reboot the system if we lost Internet service or power, but we haven't had a bit of trouble now for over a year with our service. Customer service has been polite and helpful every time I've called. We're saving money every month, and the sound quality is great. I like how you can log onto your account and see immediately what phone numbers have been called or received. I recommend Vonage but would switch back to AT&T if they were as inexpensive, just because my hi-speed Internet is with AT&T.

I have been using Vonage for about 3 years. I have had no serious problems with the service or the company. $19.08 a month for 500 mins long distance, caller ID etc.. compared to $43+ for my previous service. If my cable goes down it forwards to my cell. I think they are great.

I love my vonage phone service. For 30.20 a month I get free unlimited long distance ,call waiting , call forwarding and many other features, while verizon was charging me 100.00 a month for the same service. verizon also had terible customer service. told my brother about vonage and he signed up and he loves it too.

I have had Vonage for 2+ years now and have had no problems. Calls are clear. My $250+ phone bills are now just under $30 a month. I have recommended this service to friends and family and those that took the plunge have been very happy.

I have had Vonage since APR 2005 and have never had a single problem. The quality has always been excellent and there has never been a hiccup in billing or availability. Even though everyone in my house has at least one cell phone, I keep Vonage because it is so handy (the kids regularly lose cell phone privileges.) I can't praise the product enough. I can check voice mail online or have them emailed to me or actually use the phone. I have always been extremely satisfied with Vonage.

I have used the Vonage VOIP service for over 2 years and have been extremely pleased. I used to work for Sprint, my land based local service provider and had always been disgusted with the taxes I was charged on a monthly basis. My local bill was over $200/month with only one phone line including long distance and I have only paid $46.00/month for Vonage with two phone lines including taxes and unlimited long distance. My taxes were almost that high for my land based services.

My parents have had Vonage for 3 years, and have moved 3 times but never had to change their number. Since my husband and I move often and my parents liked the service so much we signed up for unlimited long distance. The only time I have problems is when the cable is iffy. Once in awhile we get some disturbance, but who knows if it's our connection or phone or my friends connection or phone. I have never had a call dropped. So far (1 year) it's been great.

I have been a customer of Vonage for over 4 years. The call quality has very good. There have been times when calls could not be completed. (Mothers day...) But overall very good service. Vonage's problem now is that they may not survive. They just lost a very big legal suit against Verizon. They can't accept any more customers till they fix their Intellictucal Propery issues. I may have to switch if things get bad.

I found this site while looking up direct buy information. I was surprised to see vonage on here. Our local company had crazy fees just to have local access was 27.00 a month and we didn't have long distance due to all the crazy taxes they had. We used a calling card for over 5 years. Then we switched to vonage. We have LOVE our service. We too had to have a long distance number for about 3 months but then they got local exchange numbers and for 10.00 we could change it. This was a small hassle but with a computer we just emailed every in mass the new number. posted it on our church's web site and maybe had to call 20 people. Our lines are crystal clear. Unlike our service line. All i can say is WE Are VERY Pleased.

I love my vonage phone service, its so much cheaper and is even better then verizon by far. I'm paying 30.05 per month total and that includes unlimited long distance and call waiting, forwarding and more. I was paying over 100.00 for the same thru verizon whose customer service always kept me waiting for an hour.

I have had Vonage service for over three years- I signed up for the service when it was still fairly new and went through the ordering process from their website. It arrived quickly and even though I am only marginally tech savvy I connected it myself, and very easily. Never once was I pressured to upgrade or purchase anything other than what I initially ordered and the clarity is more than I could ask for. Cell phone service is not great inside my house so I had to have something else and Vonage was, and continues to be, the answer to my prayers. I pay $14.99 a month and get ALL the features for free, and the only trouble I have ever had stemmed from temporary issues with my cable internet. Don't believe the naysayers, Vonage is fantastic!

To rebut specific complaints: 1. The person that complained about the FAX not working: I ordered my service before the date of your post and there was a warning on their website about some FAX machines not working with VOIP. 2. Not porting the phone number: There is an entry field on their website where you can enter your number to see if it is portable. All numbers should be portable unless you rejected your land-line companies portability fee. 3. If you disconnect your exterior land-line (one red wire and one green) you can plug the Vonage router phone outlet directly into the phone jack. All the phone lines in your home run in parallel so all your existing phones become digital after doing this. You do not need a Vonage phone. 4. Bandwidth: You sholud only be doing this if you have a high-speed connection such as a cable modem. If you have DSL you are paying for a phone line anyway. Vonage only takes a maximum of 30Kbs which is nothing if you have true high speed internet.

My Vonage is awesome! I've connected three dial adapters to my in-home phone system and it works perfectly every time. Had an issue with a defective device a few weeks ago. Called tech support, got India, got frustrated. Asked India to transfer me to New Jersey tech support and within two days I had a new device (no charge) and was back in business. It's a great service if you FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!

I have had Vonage for over a year. I had NO problem keeping my original number. I had NO problem setting up the service. I had NO problem receiving my rebates. I had no problem with anything. If you do not have at least a basic knowledge of technology you may have problems, but the instructions are concise and clear. Most people should have no problems. The best part about it is that I pay the same ammount each month and my $170 phone bills now are under $30 per month. Never more. I recommend the service.

I have been a loyal Vonage customer for over a year. Our Vonage box was puchased for us by a family member at a local large chain retail store. They set it up in a matter of minutes, contacted Vonage to get the number set up, disconnected the system and mailed it to us in Europe. Using Vonage, I had crystal clear phone service in Germany and NO ONE in my family had to pay long distance to call me! It was a truly ideal solution to the several hundred Euro bills we were getting from the phone. When we moved back to the states, we packed our Vonage box in our suitcase and had it hooked up to our Broadband internet the day we moved in. For the most part, we have had no problems, however, when the internet is taxed due to us living in an area where many people are vying for the same lines. The best thing you can do if you're having interference is check and make sure it isn't your cords or phone. Vonage also has a troubleshooting system for poor audio that is easy to use. Overall, I have been thrilled. I have NEVER been overcharged and when I removed my second phone line, my bill came through PERFECT. Bottom line: Quit wasting your money and get Vonage!

I am defending this product. people for the most part are complaining because they do not have the technical knowledge to know any better. it is VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL. meaning if your internet isnt working properly, or if your downloading a lot, or do not have a decent highspeed connection, you will experience less than perfect reception/quality. Vonage offers an incredible deal that simply cannot be matched by any other phone company. thier features are incredible, and they dont milk you for every little feature (in fact, theyre all FREE) (call waiting, forwarding, simultanious ring, voice mail, and more). I\'m tired of people complaining and smashing this incredible product. if you dont like vonage, go pay 3 times the price for an inferior product and let the phone companies rip you off.

I am satisfied with the service and of course the savings. I pay about $44 a month for two lines with all the bells and whistles and free long distance. I have no problem using it with my Brother MFC (fax). I especially like being able to change settings for the features, listen to vm at the website. Nothing else like it for the money as far as I can see. Is it as trouble free as a land line? Not really, but it's good enough for me. If you don't mind spending the extra money keep your land line and forgo voip. I think this technology will continue to improve. If you decide to give it a try, make sure you understand the service agreement where it says you will be charged a fee to disconnect within the first year. If their is no initial setup charge isn't that fair? I also would be leery of trying to use it with DSL, as that broadband can be so slowwww, depending on location, your calls may be choppy and you won't be satisfied. You can make an adjustment at the website to help compensate for slower broadband speeds however.

I have used Vonage for over a year. I am satified with the service. I do not understand how some people are pressured to join or add second line...?! I bought my broadband adapter at CC for $60.00. Got $60.00 in rebates and a $25.00 CC GC. The 911 service is different than standard phone 911. Call quality can be affected by the internet-- usually if I am downloading a large file. It is true that if the power is out- you do lose your phone service. But, in my home, we only have cordless phones, so when the power is down we could not use them anyways. For the $30.00/month service ($24.99 + taxes/charges) you cannot beat unlimited local, ld, and int'l calls to PR, Canada and the UK.
