I tried Bare Escentuals many years ago when it first came out, ordering a starter kit with (if i remember right) about 4 different products plus a few brushes. I thought the product was great as far as the coverage was concerned, but even the palest color they offered looked way too orange-y on my face, so I decided to return it for a refund. For what it's worth, I had no problem getting the charge refunded on my credit card. A year or so later, many popular, reputable makeup lines began carrying mineral-based makeup at a fraction of the price of BE, with a lot more natural colors and (from what I understand) without the ingredient bismuth, which is what seems to be causing many women to break out in allergic reactions. I've tried a few different brands since then, and I've been fairly happy with them all. Bottom line: Instead of BE, try one of the many other brands now also carrying minerals - they're safer than BE at a FRACTION of the price, can be found in your local discount or drug store, the colors are much more natural, and best of all: NO RETURN HASSLES. Because stress, as we all know, can cause breakouts, too!

[] concealor works like magic hides everything and does not look dry like bare minerals. when your a [] member you lock into exclusive makeup produts. PLEASE try []! being a customer for almost a year i promise you! YOU WILL LOVE IT!

My girlfriend really liked the BM so I tried it, and within a couple days, I started to get these tiny red bumps all over esp on my cheeks where I never break out. I use [] to keep my skin clear and [] powder. I kept using it thinking I my skin just had to get used to it, or that I had used some dirty brushes, or a diet change but no. Within a week, I had bumps all over my face, on my neck and jawline it looked terrible! I guess this isn't for everyone.

1. The infommercial keeps saying that sheer cover will give you a natural look. however, every time i try this product, it shows that i am wearing too much makeup. What i mean is that it is not a natural look, it looks fake on my face. 2. it makes me break out and i normally don't break out on my forehead. It is hard to come off, and every time i rinse, it makes me red. I stopped using it a while ago.

I live in Florida, so most of the year it is hot and humid. My skin is very light, I burn easily, and it does not tan. I am in my early fifties, so I do have some lines. When I use Bare Minerals, my skin feels like it is burning, it looks very dry, the lines are emphasized & I break out.

I purchased the entire BE kit from [] and after using for 3 days, my skin began to itch uncontrollably and red bumps popped up all over my face which then started to spread down my neck a little. I could actually feel the bumps rising on my skin - totally creepy! I returned the kit and receipt to [] and got a full refund - no questions asked. I went on an internet search and tried a bunch of other mineral makeup. I finally found []- thank god! It is awesome and my skin has never looked or felt better!! :)

Bare Minerals is a waste of money. Besides being ultra messy, it does not provide the flawless coverage they bang on about. It settles into even the smallest lines making them very noticeable! It cakes up after you have it on for a few hours. If you are unlucky enough to drop one of those horrid little containers then you spill all the product out and are S.O.L! The foundation colors are all very orangey. What a waste of money.

This has been a great product for me. I have very sensitive skin and have had no problems. I get compliments all the time. The mineral veil is the greatest to finish off the look.

I've been iffy about Bare Minerals since I first tried it. I only wear powder on my face, so I figured that the Bare Minerals would be good for me since I don't like too much make up. I didn't like the coverage, it wasn't enough, plus it took me too long to apply it. I gave it a second chance and used it on the weekend, I liked that it coverd my dark circles, but my face felt itchy. I gave it another chance and used it for about 5 days this time (I wish I hadn't)I broke out all over my face. I plan on returning this product, I hope they don't give me a hard time.

I've been a makeup artist for about 5 years and I feel like I know a good makeup line when I see one. I was convinced Bare Minerals would actually be great for my clients because it was all natural and believed what the commercials said. After testing the products on customers that come into my job, I totally downgraded my opinion. For women to think that POWDER will leave their skin looking soft, natural, and flawless have another thing coming, especially if you have dry skin. When you have good skincare, your makeup and your skin will be great as well. They go hand in hand. The sad part about this is, is that Bare Minerals is SO messy, and yet women feel like this stuff is Jesus Christ in the form of loose powder. No way will I ever recommend this crap to my clients, especially my clients of color. No matter how many times I've done an application on a darker skinned client, it always looks ashy and white, even if i use very little. The brushes are hard and scratchy and always fall out. They're always claiming to be the best on the market. They aren't. Because it's still makeup no matter what these women think. PEOPLE REACT DIFFERENTLY TO MAKEUP. No makeup is completely safe. Invest in something you feel would be best for you. Don't believe the hype just because all these psychotic women feel like BM is the best on the market. I hope this company goes under, seriously.

bismuth oxychloride is arsenic! google it! i too fell for this scam. i purchased some items from sephora while visiting in las vegas. i spent 28.00 on their kabuki, 25.00 for .85 grams of foundation and 19.00 for the .85 grams of mineral veil(which is all cornstarch) i could have gotten the right from my cupboard! total spent was 72.00. i was all excited to get back to the hotel and try it on. i followed the simple directions the store clerk gave me and wah lah, boohooo! it gave such a shiny appearance to my face i think i saw my reflection! but i thought well everyone else seems to like it so i will give it a whirl. within hours my face started itching and burning terribly. i couldnt understand what was going on and thought maybe it was just the heat in vegas. i stopped wearing it til i got back home a few days later and tried again. within hours there i was burning and itching. by morning i was covered in welts! i called my dr immediately and went in to see what she had to say. when i told her i had tried the i.d. bare minerals she told me to stop using it right away. she informed me that their very main ingredient bismuth oxychloride was the culprit and she had seen it many times. she said that it was a form of arsenic that had not yet been evaluated by the fda. i really liked the idea of the all natural stuff so i started researching on my own and found tons of mineral companies that sell bismuth free minerals and some do not even use cornstarch in their veils. i tried one i found on the internet and 2 brands from ebay. omg what a difference! all 3 were very comparable and none of them made me itch. prices were about 60-70% less than b.e. bareminerals is a rip off.

just want to say bismuth is not arsenic. they are two different elements. Bismuth is found in pepto-bismol. not to say it does not cause a reaction on the face, just dont want ppl freeking out.

I had a horrible time with BM. Living in S. Florida the weather is extremely hot and humid. BM caused my face to break out in a horrible rash. Not only that, but my eyes swelled up and were ITCHY and sore. The doctor said it was probably an allergic reaction to one of the components in BM. I threw it away. After reading other posts I knew it would cost me more in time and aggravation to try to get my $$ back. I definitely DO NOT recommend this product.

Bare Minerals is not natural. It is not good for you. It contains harmful chemicals, just like all the other cosmetics they (being BM) tell you not to use. It burned my face like nothing else and if I sweat it itched like mad.
If you like the coverage of minerals but like so many of us can't use BM, try Smokey Mountain Minerals. No Bismuth! They DO make mineral make up with out that poison in it.

I started using BM about a year ago. At the same time my normal face lotion was discontinued so I went in search for a new one. My skin is sensitive in the first place hence why I thought BM would be good. Well, I started breaking out everywhere on my face. I attributed it to the new facial lotion. So, then I switched again and so on. I tried new lotions, new soaps, everything! After not changing any of my routine for months and still breaking out w/ lots of clogged pores I finally figured out what the culprit was, Bare Minerals!

I started buying this product a year ago, in the process of deploying. I figured since I would be used to not wearing any makeup in the desert, that it would be a great transition when I went home on leave. Well I'm impatient, so I tried it on several times when I was overseas, and it just burned and itched the second I started sweating! Hated that, but loved how it looked.
Well now that I'm home, I've been using it daily for 4 months. I use [], (have been for years) and now along with the itchiness, all of a sudden my ENTIRE forehead is covered in red bumps, some larger than others. Its moved to my temples, above my eyebrows, & along my right jawline. It looks like a psychotic rash but when I take my makeup off at the end of the day, it doesn't itch or anything - just looks horrible. I thought it was my skincare system for awhile, but I wash my face in the shower and the soap isn't causing breakouts anywhere else. Its gotta be the bismuth oxycholoride in the BM. Naturally I tried covering it all up with more BM but as that itched, I itched all the bumps, making it even worse and feel sooo embarrassed. It's getting tossed. I'm not even going to sell it to someone else, I wouldn't wish this upon anybody.
Oh, and BM's customer service dept said that the ONLY complaints they've ever gotten are from women who are allergic to animal hair (their brushes). To them, I'm the only one who's ever had this kind of trouble.

Ok, well, I joined the club. I decided to get the big kit ($170) and when it came I was soooo excited. The first few days were nice. The makeup looked good, it felt good, good colors. But, unfortunately I could only wear it inside. If I wore it outside, my skin BURNED! (like I had severe sunburn). I called to get an RMA to return the set, they gave me the run around. Finally, they said I could return it. They said I could supply a tracking number for expedited service/refund. I payed extra for tracking, called back with the track# & was told this didn't matter, it would still take 2-3 billing cycles (months) to credit my refund. Not only that, but I was told I would not be billed again & I WAS BILLED $70 more AFTER returning the product, which gave me a $32 nsf charge from my bank that cannot be reversed, so after calling the company several times, I am not worrying with it anymore, I will just file a dispute with my bank to recover my nsf fee. Unbelieveable.

Bismuth oxychloride is a type of arsenic & is a known allergen in 70% of humans. I didn't know that when I bought Bare Escentuals minerals. I believed the infomercial when it said it was healthy & would sooth my sensitive skin. Within minutes of putting it on & going outside in the summer my face felt like it was being stung all over by fire ants & I was freaking out that something seriously wrong was happening to me. I had welts & red splotches & my skin on my nose peeled like sunburn for days. I missed work it was so bad. Their customer reps refused to refund me or authorize a return. They knew exactly what was wrong & told me it was the bismuth. They said about 20% of all customers have the same reaction! THEN they told me to just keep using it because they said your skin will get used to it. That is when I looked up what bismuth really is. ARSENIC! What?! My skin will get used to arsenic? Fat chance! I tried to send emails & called to opt out of the autoshipment program but they refused. They said I had to go click the link on the website to opt out of getting automatic product shipments charged to my credit card. Time & again they gave me bogus information leading me on goose chases for the link to opt out & I never could find it. About a year later I was still getting the arsenic laden junk in the mail that I wouldn't let my dog wear let alone give it to another person so they could be a victim. One day I got mad & sat on the phone for hours yelling and screaming to be let out of the program. They told me there was no supervisor & I couldn't speak to anyone higher up to get help. In the end I found a website complaining about the same thing and a woman gave the address to where Bare Escentuals had hidden the link that week & I finally got opted out nearly $300 later. Most of the victims of Bare Escentuals just go off to find a better brand & put it behind them. Not me. Instead I became obsessed with the industry of mineral cosmetics & all it's secrets to rip off customers, sell unsafe ingredients & keep prices bloated & overpriced. So I made my own minerals that changed all that. I now have my own company selling healthy, affordable minerals that really work & look great without burning customers with arsenic or burning them with rip offs. Too bad I can't put the name here... but if you guys just look, there are alternatives out there that are quality makeup that is truly safe. All the people here saying they LOVE bare minerals are either employees (the company is completly inscrupulous) or these are women who don't need makeup to begin with & have skin like an armadillo hide. I guess if I didn't know what good makeup is or about the health issues I may think Bare Escentuals is ok too if it didn't burn me. And just FYI. the company, BE, goes after any company who tries to sell minerals using the words bare or essential & run them out of business by claiming they own exclusive rights to both of those words no matter how they are used. Their lawyers have been bullying me constantly about everything from my name to saying I don't have any rights as a US citizen to apply for a trademark name, just applying not even getting the trademark. That is how big a power trip that company is on. Please ladies, buy any brand but this brand.
