The only problem I had with the food saver was the vacu-tainers the base has a weak point and starts a spider-web crack which doesn't allow it to hold a vacuum. I contacted the company, which is very hard because Tilia, the manufacturer is not the seller and you can't get past the marketing company. After telling them my complaint and exposing the containers weakness they finally sent me new containers. I believe that I had run them through the dishwasher and they are not dishwasher safe. I have not had any problems sealing bags sometimes one has to put a paper towel blocker inside, when contents are juicy, before sealing.

I own two foodsavers. In both cases, after some time, the lost the ability to suck the air out of the bag. My last FS was purchased several years ago as a top-of-the-line Pro II. After it lost it's ability to suck out the air, I contacted FS, who told me that the product was out of warranty (duh!) and then told me to plug it in an run it next to the phone. The old over the phone diagnosis trick. Then I was told that the problem was the vacuum pump, rather than any gaskets, and I would have to replace the machine. After I pursued the matter further I was told that it was probably my gaskets, but gee whiz, they were out of stock on those (Would you like to buy a new machine?). After another call I was told that the gaskets for the Pro III were identical to the Pro II and were in stock and would be shipped out to me immediately, to arrive in about 10 days. Two weeks later, having not received anything, I called. "Gee sir, we don't see an order for you for those." Really! And, what;s more sir, we're out of stock on those Pro II gaskets and we don't know when we'll get them in again. (Want to buy an new machine?) When I told them about the Pro III gaskets - the ones that weren't ordered for me - these suddenly became on back order. When I talked to a supervisor, they were suddenly available, but now wouldn't fit my machine. When I groused a little further, I guess the truck carrying the gaskets for the Pro II must have just pulled into their customer care center and became available - well, kind of available, I can look for them in about three weeks. I can understand that much time to ship and receive the item. After all, by the time the snail dodges the Snail poison and avoids being squished by the traffic, I'm acually stunned that I might actually get them before the end of the year. Actually, while I'm waiting, I think I'll suck the air out of the bag by putting my food in the bag, which I will place on the yellow line (the one where I would put the snails as a kid) and allow the first semi to crush the air out of the bag. Then I'll dash out and get the bag and hope I can glue it shut before the air envelops the food. My approach I'll call "Dash for the cash to save cash from the trash."
Of course, I've received numerous apologies - I'm sorry about this; I'm sorry you feel that way: I said I'm sorry. Of course, the reality is that sorry doesn't vacuum the air out of the bag. And while customer service and their approach sucks, it still doesn't suck the air out of the bag.
In the future, I'll be looking at other alternatives to Foodsaver products or any products associated with Jardin.

I have owned a Food Saver for about 4 years and have gotten great service from it. I did not buy mine off of TV, but bought it at a retail store. I have read where some people have had problems using theirs. If you follow manufacturer's directions you will have no problems using it. It has saved me hundreds of dollars in food costs over the years (mabey even thousends). Meat will last for a year if properly sealed which is very easy to do.

it's a great concept, but the machine is made poorly. the liquid from the food gets sucked in and ruins the seal. i only got maybe 10 good uses out of mine before it just stopped working properly. And as another user wrote, a lot of things you have to freeze first, which makes no sense and they don't show you this on the ads.

I bought one of these several years ago. I found the bags hard to hold with the food in them and trying to seal it and the seals don't stay sealed. What a waste of money that I really didn't have to spend trying to save money!

I have owned 2 previous Food Savers and I loved the concept but the units generally were not reliable. Both failed after a year's use and one I bought for my mother died also. They all stopped pulling suction. I always cleaned them after every use and made sure no food or fluid ever got into the suction port. I just purchased a Seal-A-Meal, and have found it a much better quality unit and better designed and executed. The suction chamber even comes out for easy cleaning, something the Food Saver never did. The bags are interchangable so I lost nothing there either. I have also several of vacuum seal canisters that won't keep a suction on them so I only use them now to store rice or beans. Sorry Food Saver, you had your chance 3 times with me and you failed every one. [] forever!

I've wanted one for years, and i recently found out my dad has one so i took it over. In the commercial they talk about being able to extend the life of vegatables, so i decided to cut prep time and i chopped up a whole bag of onions and put them in diffrent bags so cooking would be easy...turns out you have to freeze everything FIRST (which would ruin lots of vegatables) If you try to vacum fresh vegatables, the juice from them get sucked up into the vacuum, and could break the whole unit. I didnt know this, and now everything i've tried to vacuum after hasnt had a "air tight" seal. I would recomend it for dry goods, but not for things that actually go bad quickly =( bummer

Okay so I saw this great food saver at TV that sucks the air out of some plastic bag and make ur food stay fresh inside the bag for a long time. I bought it and started putting my vegetables in these smelly plastic bags and air it out with this noisy food saver. After less than a week I see yellow spots over my foods and so it came out that without food saver it used to last longer in the refrigerator so I say food saver is a big lie.
