I bought this for my hubbie and son who are avid fishermen, well, this sucks so bad. maybe its for catching some 3oz fish in a baby pond or something but definitely not for use off a jetty or for surf fishing. Its awful. Trying to get my money back, but based on what I've read, its not looking good!

My buddy bought two of these polls to try out, we went off our local jetty where we usually do pretty well, the current was strong that day so I put a 1 1/2oz sinker on and went to cast, as I whipped the poll back the line snaped and the weight, the hook, the bait went flying up into the air almost hitting another person, I was so emberassed. I decided to try it again so I rigged my line again and casted it out, well the tip of the poll broke in half and slid down the line into the water... Tried to reel it back in and the gears sounded like they were grinding metal to metal, I finally got it in, packed it up and left, I have called the company about 15 times now and have gotten no response, I am now writing a letter to the better business bureau so that I can get a full refund plus shipping. I let you all know how it works out. My advice is do the same, report this company. Here is the web site [] copy and paste this into your address bar and file a complaint.

i seen the ad for these on tv. bought 2 of them.they are a pos. reels don't work right. lines tangle all up and can't cast.tried to reel in a 3 pound cat fish and could not get the drag to work properly. what a piece of junk. i am very upset over this ripoff. i have an avid fishing person for over 50 years and never been so ripped off. do not buy these rods. and good luck trying to get anyone to answer you on the phone or by email as it will not happen. once they have your money you are done for it,they will never answer you. i sent 7 emails and after a threat of public advertisements on the ripoff they did email me 1 time and stated they had never got any precious emails.what a lie.

This is a big scam and the fool are still at it. I saw the advertisement on late night tv and I thought how perfect. Then it came in the mail and I took a scroll to the local park to try it out. The whole rod fell apart in my hand as I was trying to reel it in on my first fish of the day. I am a beginner fisher. I been fishing for probly 2 years and I can honestly say that this is the biggest POS I have ever seen in my entire life. In my 2 years of fishing this is the worst experience I have had in my life. I was so embarrassed, everyone was laughing at me when it fell apart. I called to try to get a refund and I was cursed out by the supervisor. I told them I would take legal action and he said that I was scammed, thats how business work so I need to get over it. Do not buy this product, you will regret it.

You could be a complete novice and know upon taking the pole out of the box it is a POS! This thing couldn't catch a cold much less a fish. The shark catch could have been done if it was re-spooled with something other than thread, and oh yeah... the shark would have to be dead. Even then I question if it wouldn't just snap from the piss poor construction of the pole. The company should send a roll of duct tape and a bottle of super glue to take care of all the repairs this thing will need right out of the box! if you buy it, you will hate yourself, trust me and go to [] or somewhere else and buy a pole that breaks down into pieces. They are in expensive and can be stored in just as small of space. This product isn't worth owning if it was free.

I bought this last November. After seeing the video claiming it could catch a shark. After getting it within 2 weeks. I took it to Galveston Texas Gulf Coast to see what it could do. Well, the first pole's tip of the rod broke. That was the only thing that happened. The cast was smooth, the play was nice but no fish biting at all. I put the broke rod in the box and taped it up and placed return to sender on the outside. I thought that's what you do since you already paid for shipping. After 2 months. I called and called. I even called the post office whom in turn let me speak to the local carrier for the mail box. I was told the place is a strip mall mail drop listed to a warehouse for general merchandise goods. Pretty fishy for a company supposedly just making the best fishing rod ever! Anyhow, I talked to the postal carrier because the company claimed they did not show receipt of my return. It appeared the package was lost. Now the company was real nice to me and very helpful. They offered to replace the pole since it was lost in the mail. I opted for the refund and received my credit 2 days later. Then 1 month later, I got back from the post office my original broken pole??? Then the next day, I got 2 new poles from Instant Fisherman??? I tried them out and they are worse then the original ones I had. The lines broke easily and the gears are loose and feel as if it were made out of plastic. I caught small Hardhead Cat's and a small trout with it.. I doubt the pole will ever catch anything bigger then 7 lbs. The test line appears to be a 7-10lb test. How the hell can that catch a shark? Beats me! I ended up getting a nice bait caster with my refunded money. Synopsis- It's ok for small fish and the amateur fisher whom fishes once or twice here a year. Not ok for an avid fisher looking for a reliable rod/reel. Bottom Line: It's just not worth the total cost for the product. It is not necessarily a rip-off but more so, a highly overpriced, inferior product. You can get a better rod/reel combo for much less. Do not buy this for yourself, it's only a starter rod for small, inexperienced children.

I received the Instant Fisherman as a gift. While using it the little black nob part that is used to reel the line in broke off. I called the company to see if I could purchase a new piece or have it replaced for free and they told me that I had to mail the old pole along with 19.99 and 4.95 for shipping and handling and they would in turn send me another pole. Well, they can go jump in the lake as far as I am concerned.

SCAM! This is the biggest joke I have ever seen! I can honestly say we were completely ripped off. I was so excited... I awaited the arrival of my Instant Fisherman for close to a month. When I finally received it, I strolled to the park to try it out. I was successful in that I caught a small bass, however, that was the end of the pole. It would not cast after that and when I reeled it in, it sounded and felt like it was going to fall apart in my hands. WHAT A SCAM! Please, do yourself a favor and save your money! Do not give these scam artists any more of our hard earned money! DO NOT BUY!

I purchased 3 at the same time - we are only beginner fisherman so smoothness, etc, is not the most important thing. But, service should be exceptional at this price. I purchased one for my son, one for his wife and one for myself. One does not work - I simply cannot get a response to e-mails or calls to have it exchanged. The company is impossible to get a hold of after paying and receiving the product. In this instance - I feel that the whole thing is a rip-off if service is nonexistent and I am very disgusted with the quality of their merchandise.

Wow. I really should have searched this before i bought. Lesson learned. I did receive this pile of junk. 2 of them actually. Total wasted - about $124.40 Canadian. I can not stress how bad this is. As mentioned from others, the gearing is garbage, the plastic rod is garbage and the tension adjust is garbage. I am sorry it even showed up. I laugh at the commercial when they catch a shark with this p.o.s. I cant imagine trying to bring in anything over 2 pounds. absolute joke. If you intend to spend $120 on two rods - buy a couple of Ugly Stik's from [].

AWFUL!!! I too was an idiot and bought this piece of junk! It broke on the 3rd cast, and left me sitting on the bank for the rest of the morning. There are several reasons I was displeased with the product: The gears were extremely noisy when reeling… no chance of sneaking up on a good fishing hole!! The unit was awkward to hold and cast. Casting wasn’t smooth at all. The unit itself was relatively heavy – definitely too heavy for a child to use – bad advertising Fishing rod doesn’t fit inside the tackle belt once the belt has fishing equipment in the compartments – so you still have to carry 2 items – again bad advertising And of course, it broke within 3 casts!! That’s right. On the 3rd cast it jammed up, the casting button broke, and it wouldn’t reel! My rating?? This thing gets a ZERO out of five stars!!

I am an avid fisherman... correction... CATCHERMAN! I have been fishing since I was able to hold a pole in my hands. Currently I personally own 17 freshwater rod & real setups both spinning & bait casting. One of the reels I own is the Shimano Antares DC7 LH (This is the JAPAN MODEL OF CALAIS 201 DC). This reel sells for over $500.00! I also own 12 salt water setups of which 3 of the rods I built myself! I do a bit of traveling from time to time and have always cringed at the thought of taking any of my valued gear on an airplane, knowing how the gorillas handle the baggage on airlines (My brother used to work as one for one of the major carriers). When I saw the infomercial for the Instant fisherman I thought this was the answer! I could put this in my suit case and have no worries. I ordered the 2 for the rice of 1 deal and did receive it rather quickly (I live in So. Cal.) Excited to try it out I took it out, opened it up and extended the pole. It comes with a practice plug already tied on the end of the line so I swung back and let it fly. I was suprized that it casted relitively well. So far so good right.... Well that is where the good news ends! when I started to reel in the line it sounds and feels like the gears inside the reel were grinding and skipping VERY BADLY! To make it even worse, when I tried to adjust the drag on the reel I realised what a piece of SHE-EYET this thing really is! As long as you keep pulling the line off the reel you can set the drag to what one would think would be right for the weight of the line. Then after reeling a few turns and checking the drag again, There was so much "Peak" in the drag (the amount of pressure it takes to get the drag to break loose) That I know the line would snap of you were to get a major strike! Setting it loose enough so this didn't happen makes it so loose that you cant evenreel in the line after you cast! Being as I am one of those MacGyver kind og guys, I am going to try tweaking around with it to see if I can get it to work any better. But for the people that want something quick and compact to go fishing with DONT BUY THIS CHEEPLY MADE PIECE OF JUNK! If I can get the reel to work any better I will post what it takes to fix it.

I just report that I still hae not received the product and was giving them until Monday April 2 to come when I went on the order site I found out that they just shipped i on Friday March 30th that is 6 weeks after they received the money from my account this site and preduct is a big rip off no one should buy it. Now I will start the fight for the money back and someon needs to do something about this or make a site that takes people to the the complaint befor ordering. I'm tried of being rip off and so are other people and this is a big one to people who really like fishing and not happy about this right now and I wish they were open they make the hours of customer servie realhard for working people to call them.

I bought two of the piece of crap. They did not work from day one. Then when I got my bill it was double. The crap just not worth it at all. if youn caught a fish the reel is like it is stripped. And then on top of that it is backward. You throw it out and then you have to flip it to wide it back in. It is set up as if it was for a left hand person and then they did not give any guidelines. I too tried calling a number that was on the computer and it was the wrong number and I kept calling and the person that answered the phone got tired of me calling and helped me get the correct number. This has broke from buying anything from infomercials never again.
