I purchased 3 at the same time - we are only beginner fisherman so smoothness, etc, is not the most important thing. But, service should be exceptional at this price. I purchased one for my son, one for his wife and one for myself. One does not work - I simply cannot get a response to e-mails or calls to have it exchanged. The company is impossible to get a hold of after paying and receiving the product. In this instance - I feel that the whole thing is a rip-off if service is nonexistent and I am very disgusted with the quality of their merchandise.

Wow. I really should have searched this before i bought. Lesson learned. I did receive this pile of junk. 2 of them actually. Total wasted - about $124.40 Canadian. I can not stress how bad this is. As mentioned from others, the gearing is garbage, the plastic rod is garbage and the tension adjust is garbage. I am sorry it even showed up. I laugh at the commercial when they catch a shark with this p.o.s. I cant imagine trying to bring in anything over 2 pounds. absolute joke. If you intend to spend $120 on two rods - buy a couple of Ugly Stik's from [].

AWFUL!!! I too was an idiot and bought this piece of junk! It broke on the 3rd cast, and left me sitting on the bank for the rest of the morning. There are several reasons I was displeased with the product: The gears were extremely noisy when reeling… no chance of sneaking up on a good fishing hole!! The unit was awkward to hold and cast. Casting wasn’t smooth at all. The unit itself was relatively heavy – definitely too heavy for a child to use – bad advertising Fishing rod doesn’t fit inside the tackle belt once the belt has fishing equipment in the compartments – so you still have to carry 2 items – again bad advertising And of course, it broke within 3 casts!! That’s right. On the 3rd cast it jammed up, the casting button broke, and it wouldn’t reel! My rating?? This thing gets a ZERO out of five stars!!

I am an avid fisherman... correction... CATCHERMAN! I have been fishing since I was able to hold a pole in my hands. Currently I personally own 17 freshwater rod & real setups both spinning & bait casting. One of the reels I own is the Shimano Antares DC7 LH (This is the JAPAN MODEL OF CALAIS 201 DC). This reel sells for over $500.00! I also own 12 salt water setups of which 3 of the rods I built myself! I do a bit of traveling from time to time and have always cringed at the thought of taking any of my valued gear on an airplane, knowing how the gorillas handle the baggage on airlines (My brother used to work as one for one of the major carriers). When I saw the infomercial for the Instant fisherman I thought this was the answer! I could put this in my suit case and have no worries. I ordered the 2 for the rice of 1 deal and did receive it rather quickly (I live in So. Cal.) Excited to try it out I took it out, opened it up and extended the pole. It comes with a practice plug already tied on the end of the line so I swung back and let it fly. I was suprized that it casted relitively well. So far so good right.... Well that is where the good news ends! when I started to reel in the line it sounds and feels like the gears inside the reel were grinding and skipping VERY BADLY! To make it even worse, when I tried to adjust the drag on the reel I realised what a piece of SHE-EYET this thing really is! As long as you keep pulling the line off the reel you can set the drag to what one would think would be right for the weight of the line. Then after reeling a few turns and checking the drag again, There was so much "Peak" in the drag (the amount of pressure it takes to get the drag to break loose) That I know the line would snap of you were to get a major strike! Setting it loose enough so this didn't happen makes it so loose that you cant evenreel in the line after you cast! Being as I am one of those MacGyver kind og guys, I am going to try tweaking around with it to see if I can get it to work any better. But for the people that want something quick and compact to go fishing with DONT BUY THIS CHEEPLY MADE PIECE OF JUNK! If I can get the reel to work any better I will post what it takes to fix it.

I bought two of the piece of crap. They did not work from day one. Then when I got my bill it was double. The crap just not worth it at all. if youn caught a fish the reel is like it is stripped. And then on top of that it is backward. You throw it out and then you have to flip it to wide it back in. It is set up as if it was for a left hand person and then they did not give any guidelines. I too tried calling a number that was on the computer and it was the wrong number and I kept calling and the person that answered the phone got tired of me calling and helped me get the correct number. This has broke from buying anything from infomercials never again.

After seeing the infomercial on TV, I've purchased the Instant Fishermen. (Big Mistake!!!!) I paid the rush shipping to get it withing three days as they claim on the automated ordering service. After a week and a half I called the number on their web site and spoke with someone there at customer service, they told me that the rush shipping is they'll process the order and ship it out in 3-5 days, and that my order will ship out the next 24 hours. After another week I finally received the piece of crap! The first time I took it out on the water, it broke on the 2nd cast! I tried to get in contact with Instant Fishermen to have my rod repair since they claim to have a 10 year warranty, but I have no luck, it's now been 3 months and I'm stuck with a rod that I can't use. (what a rip off!) It looks like a great product on TV, but its just a big scam! DON'T BUY THE INSTANT FISHERMEN, and please pass on the word to your friends and family about this scam. Chris

The worst piece of crap i ever bought, i got it and tried it out, it seemed beautiful and looked good. seemed to cast nicely, until it was used as a fishing rod. it is the worst piece of garbage on the market, it jammed, tangled, casted out about 20 feet not sixty. it was a ruined day. i finally threw at away and went to a tackle shop and bought a real rod and reel and saved the day. Another problem with it is, if you open the reel housing, and put it back it never works right after that. A piece of junk. they should form a class action suit to get all the money back that people are spending on this scam item

Disgraceful. This product has got to be a joke.A really bad joke. But as ridiculous as the actual fishing rod turned out to be, the customer service/support was even worse (mostly nonexistant). I am amazed that it is even for sale still. Folks, do yourselves a favor: if you want to but a small, inexpensive fishing rod, you're better off going to []. You might even get a better deal, simply because [] won't charge you $40 for shipping (when FedEx told me it only costs $7.50 to ship it back to them).

I purchased this product as a birthday present for my boyfriend. I ordered it over the phone on Aug. 28. My boyfriends birthday was 8 days from that, but I purchased the extra $10 option of rush delivery (guaranteed 2-3 day delivery) to insure that it would get here in time. Needless to say, by, Sept. 5, I had received nothing. It finally came 2 days later! In addition, I opted for a payment plan of 3 monthly payments, but after checking my online banking, found that they took out all $93 in one swoop, which resulted in an overdraft fee of $35.It took a lot of work to get in touch with them, as the number on their website is non-active) I am livid. I am very, very angry. But that's not all. We finally got around to fishing yesterday, and the look on my boyfriend's face was so sad. It took about an hour to get it out of him, but he finally broke down and told me that the "fishing pole" was horrible. One of the cheapest, loudest, bulkyest, most awkward rod he'd ever seen. (He's been an avid fisherman since he was 5 or 6). The saddest part was that he felt so bad about having to tell me this, but I made him. Basically, he said you could get something of the same quality at your local []. I'm returning it today, LESS $40 SHIPPING & HANDLING. **Do not even entertain the thought of purchasing this wad of cheap plastic! Trust me.

I am an avid fisherman. I happened to catch an infomercial about "The Instant Fisherman", and the Fishing Rods seemed like a perfect stup for myself. I called the number on the infomercial and tried to order the product. I was told that I could only get information on the Fishing rods after I gave them my credit card information. I refused to give any credit card numbers untill I had more details about the product. I was told that is not possible. I went to their website and read about the items I would be purchasing. Feeling confidant in the product I ordered them on-line. One month after purchase, No items were delivered to me. I tried to contact the company to check on status of my purchases. The number listed on their website is not a valid number. I tried to see if there was any other way to contact them but to no avail. There is no working phone number and the only way is to send them a letter, which of course I got no RESPONSE from them. I am now fighting with my Credit Card Company to cancel the payment, but because I had waited 30 days the charges have already cleared. They offer a 30 day guarentee for their products but 30 days has passed and I have yet to recieve the products. DO NOT PURCHASE "THE INSTANT FISHERMAN" because you WILL NOT recieve the products.
