We bought two Oreck air purifiers about two years ago. Simply put, they don't work. We live in an area where there is a lot of dust in the air, and we were told that we would see a noticeable difference in the amount of dust on environmental surfaces. This definitely has not happened. We even wind up dusting the air cleaners because of all the dust that accumulates on top of them. These devices are also unreliable. The fan motors required replacement on both units (fortunately still under warranty, but just barely). The owner of our local Oreck store (we bought these by mail, not from him) said that the fan motors have been a big issue with this particular model. He claimed that the newer ones have more reliable motors. I doubt that they do any better job cleaning the air, though. They do remove some dust from the air, but the difference is far from dramatic.

Near the end Oct. 2007, I saw the TV commercial for a free 60 days trial of the Oreck Air Purifier and decided to give it a try. (I was expecting a baby in November and wanted the house to be cleaner for the arrival of my baby). I received the product 3 days after placing the order. I tried it out for the first week but wasn't happy with it performance. (The machine started popping and sparks/static was seen as early as the first week of usage). At first I thought it was because my house was so dirty that it had collected so many dusts. I clean it, but to my surprise, when I open the cell, there was not a single speck of dust in it! (My husband was already complaining at this time). I gave the product the benefit of the doubt and tested it out for a couple more weeks. Finally I decided it wasn't worth it and started packing it up to get send back the next day. Well, I went into labor that same night and naturally, the product was out of the picture. I finally came around to retuning it on Dec. 2007, near the Christmas/New Year holiday. The product was signed for in Jan. 08. I called yesterday (Feb. 08) and was told by a lady Customer Service Rep. that they have no record that I even placed an order from them. Isn’t it funny how they have all my information (name, address, phone number, etc.) but no record of an order being placed? She told me to fax over my bank/credit card statement showing the charge on my account and the UPS delivery confirmation showing that the product was returned and any other proof that will prove my claim. I got her Rep information and politely said good-bye. I called again 10 minutes afterward and spoke with a different rep. I gave her my order confirmation and pretended to check on the status of the order. Guess what? She found the order, but (and here's the fun part) the product was on backordered and not scheduled to ship until March 2008. In my head, I'm thinking, these people are crazy! One rep said they have no record of me placing any orders and another rep said my order is on backordered! So I pretended to go with the flow and ask them to cancel the order and issue me a credit. I was told that they haven't even charged me yet because the product was on backordered. Again, I was instructed to fax the statement showing the charges posted on my account so they can "investigate" the matter. Round and round the discussion went and finally the lady said that she saw a credit in progress for the amount I paid (roughly a little over $500) on Feb. 2, 2008. I asked for the cancellation confirmation number and was told there isn't one. She did, however, gave me the number of the invoice that would have been billed to me if I had “continued with the order”. See how messed up their system is? They didn't even know that I received the product, tested it out and returned it already. Let's wait and see if they will try to charge me again in March for that "backordered" air purifier.

I purchased this purifier about 2 years ago and in the beginning it worked great, it was quiet and purified the air to my satisfication. But after we pulled out to clean it and turn it back on it started shooting sparks out the front of it. The longer we have owned it the worse it has gotten, electric sparks popping out the front almost every 5-10 sec. And now it's silent mode ISN'T SILENT ANYMORE, it has a constant static noise coming from it. We paid $400 for the purifier and will never buy Oreck products again. EVEN THE FREE VACUUM THEY GAVE US JUST STOPPED WORKING ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER WE RECEIVED IT. What a SCAM, a $400 LEARNING EXPERIENCE, GOT TO LOVE THOSE. And just to think I almost bought 2 of them. lol. TRUST ME, NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM ORECK !!!!!!!!

I purchased two of the Oreck XL Professional Air Purifiers after the TV ad. I made the mistake of trusting David Oreck and his ad. One of the units was operational but made no difference in the air quality and the other unit didn't work at all. I wish I would have searched the internet prior to placing my order for Oreck complaints. [] had some good information on different units and you can find plenty of complaints on David Oreck Products too. I'm trying to get a refund and trying to get them to stop taking money out of my bank account. I'll NEVER buy another product that has the name Oreck on it. 100% service disabled veteran ripped off

A total waste of money. Having used air purifiers for over 25 years this had to be the cheapest, worst performing one of all. It doesn't cover the size of the room claimed, it didn't clean very well, and I guess I am paying for the infomercial...

I purchased two Oreck Air Purifier's about 18 months ago. I have had numerous problems. They sent me new ones, they sent me new collecter cells (twice), they sent me a cell cleaner. Nothing works, I cannot use them if the air is humid at all. I live in NY on the beach, so tell me how many months I cannot use them due to humind air. they pop and snap all the time. I have had no luck with customer support. I want my money back. I am going to go to small claims court. They are not worth the money at all!!!

i bought 2 of these a year ago because of the add said it would take away cigarette smoke among other things. but my main reason was for cig smoke. i'll say that it does do that, but at a heavy cost. after about a month the filter/coils began to pop meaning they needed to be cleaned. after cleaning with the recommend spray $4 a can it lasted less than a week before the popping 10-30 times a min began again. Now after approx. 15 cans, and replacing the warranted coils 5 times i'm totally disgusted with the claim/ad. Customer service was no help, all i can do now is return the coils every few months for the next 10 years. i was thinking about buying a vacuum & carpet shampooer but can't do it because of the misleading statements made on my first dealings with them. The oreck repair shop were i've come to know the people there very well say i'm the only one that has this problem, i find that very hard to believe. I offered to exchange these for a vacuum, both to save them $$$ in having to exchange the coils 4-5 times a year, and to save me the cost of returning them 15miles away. i'm extremely dissatisfied with a company name that i trusted for years. good luck to the others that smoke and expect these cleaners to do what the add claims. mike
