Proactiv has ruined my skin. I'm 24 years old with hormonal breakouts and developed acne under my chin due to stress. After using proactiv as instructed for 2 months, I developed horrible dry and itchy skin around my nose. Its so itchy and dry to the point that it bleeds and I look like I have the worst rash and it hasnt gone away for over a month after I stopped using Proactiv. I would NEVER recommend this product even to my worst enemy.

My acne is not that bad, but I tried proactiv to tame it because my breakouts are more prevalent during my menstrual cycle. I noticed that i broke out more but was told that the product will make you break out as it pushes all dirt out of your skin first, before fixing the problem. Now, 6 months later, the problem has only worsened and I have noticed considerable damage to my skin. I went to a dermatologist that told me my skin was very very dry. I also noticed that the proactiv was beginning to age me and I started noticing fine lines around my eyes and mouth. I discussed my concerns with a doctor who informed me that prolonged use of benzol peroxide (the main acne fighting ingredient in the product) does in fact thin the outer layer of your skin, making it more susceptible to fine lines. Also, it is irrisponsible of them to not incorporate a sunscreen in the product because once it thins the layer, it also becomes more susceptible to the sun. Take it from me, this product is not for all skin types the way it professes. Further, it is very damaging to the skin and very harsh for mild acne. I would not recommend this product.

Previously I was a proactiv club member. I had no problem with the product itself. It seemed to work Ok for me. My problem was the product was expiring before I could use it. Even when we adjusted the shipements I ended up throwing out 50% of my product because of the expiration dates and they could care less about that. Finally, when I could not resolve the problem with changing the shipment schedule I stopped paying for the product so they would stop sending it for a while. I kept a balance for a 1 month supply until it went into collections and then I paid the balance and closed my account. Recently, I reopened my account because it looked like there was more flexibility and ability to control your account and shipment schedules online. They contacted me and said my outstanding balance was never satisfied. I have proof that I made the payment and that is what they are looking for. Buyer Beware of the expiration dates, frequent shipments and keep track of shipments received and payments made to them. The product is overpriced and you could find a product that works just as well at your local drug store.

I tried Proactiv when I saw the infomercial and thought it could help with my acne, which was not that bad. After my acne kept getting worse, my skin was drying out, and my skin being red and irritated I stopped. Then I started getting those cystic acne. I went to a dermatologist and told him I had been using Proactiv but my acne got worse and he told me Proactiv is the worst thing you can do for your skin! He said I have to give my skin time to heal by using gentle products like Cetaphil. I have been using Cetaphil bar soap for 2 months and the redness significantly reduced, the dryness is almost gone, and my skin doesn't hurt anymore. I still have a few breakouts like I had originally before trying proactiv but I keep it under control by spot-treating with the Clean and Clear clear acne treatment in the clear tube with purple lid. Please don't hurt your skin with this product. There are good products over the counter at the drugstore that do not create so much damage.

I am not an adolescent but a 43 year old woman with hormonal breakouts. I tried this product to help clear up some small breakout areas. After 5 weeks I have HUGE cyst-like pimples on my chin. As many of you know these types of zits take Forever! to go away. My face is more oily than ever and I have used the product exactly as instructed. Its been a huge disapointment. I plan on going back to my Oil of Olay products. After reading the other comments I'm scared to stop using Proactiv it my skin is going to get even worse.

I had minor acne on my neck, but the product has made my whole face full of acne. My skin is now 10 times worse and this is not an exaggeration. I really don't know what to do! DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!

yes, I bought the burn, first off, I regually get a wax on my brows and upper lip, well I used the proactive and my brows, and upper lip are ON FIRE!!!! even sollen, and little white pussy bumps formed only hours after using, and the rest off my face feels, tight and burning too. Now, I bought this stuff at a kiosk in the mall it cost $50.00, then I was watching MTV, and the infomercial came on, only 19.99. What?? whatever, I payed too much for some B.S. that totally ruined my skin, I put some shea & cocoa butter on my face, maybe that will help my burn, but I will definatly wake up with worst skin then what I had, I dont have "break-outs", I'm one of those people who gets big pimples, I would usually on a daily basis have three big pimples, one will clear up, then another will form, but know I'm burdened by little bumps with white heads, they hurt, don't trust Jessica Simpson, she is a paid actor, and a liar, but I'm truely surprised by Kelly Clarkston, I thought she was telling the truth. Bottom line, do not buy guthy-renker anything, they want your money, and they don't know it is doing this to people, this is a rip-off, beware the burn.

Proactive has ruined my skin. What before was moderated acne is now horrible red painful welts all over my face. It helps for the first little bit , then all hell breaks lose. A friend of mine was told by a skin specialist that proactive solution is the worst stuff you can put on your face, and she has had to try to heal damage done from proactive. All this product does is completly block your pores so nothing gets through, the minute you stop using it , break outs everywhere. Please if your thinking of buying this product DONT.

in grade 7 i started getting acne and all through highschool up until the 12th grade. my skin became very clear and i havdn't had a problem with acne at all until i tried proactive! withing 2 hours of my first treatment my chin and under my nose broke out in a grotesk manner, i called the company and they told me to keep using the product and it will clear up it has been almost a year since i used it last(just one treatment) and since then i have had the worst acne out of any of my friends. my acne is so bad both of my cheeks have scars all over them not just from the scrub but mostly because i got a bad burn from the cleanser DO NOT USE THIS PROACTIVE BS.

I used the ProActiv kit twice daily for several months and my face cleared, however so did the color in my clothes and my hair. It has a bleach in it which helps to hide the discolorations. The minute you stop using it, your face color returns along with every pore and line. I have since stopped using the product and have acne worse now than I did when I was a teenager. Beware of all the promises. It can work, but if you stop, you'll have a very zitty surprise.

Well I bought the proactiv about 3 weeks ago.. at first I used the 3 step treatment twice a day and it looked like it was helping. I came home late one night and forgot to do it, the next morning forgot to do it. Then I started using it that night. I woke up and I had these itty bitty white heads all over my nose, chin, and cheeks!! It was complely horrible. I kept on using and they will not go away. I never had bad acne, I am a model and thought it would be nice to have my skin looking even toned and so i don't break out with a few before a photo shoot.. I have a photo shoot in 10 days and if this doesn't clear up I'm going to be royally ticked off!

I have just used my first small kit of the proactiv solution, and recieved my next shipment. First off i didnt know they just charge you without telling, but thats not really why im complaining. I didnt have bad acne at all, just wanted to make my skin perfect. This first month and a half of proactiv has made me break out the worst ive ever done in my life. Its terrible, i have canceled my subscription, and i am just going to stop using it. Im just going back to using face wash when i clean my face. Proactiv is terrible

I ordered the little 30 day kit of proactiv-I thought there were no strings attached-according to how they advertise your choices. If you become a "club member" then they automatically charge your account every 60 days and send you more...well I ordered the 30 day kit-I did not sign up to be a "club memeber" Nor did I give Proactiv permission to automatically take money out of my bank account.Either I misunderstood (which I highly doubt) or Proactiv needs to advertise and explain more clearly so people can KNOW what their getting themselves into. I called proactiv to get my money back and explain to them that this is not what I signed up for or ordered..they try to talk you into not canceling-then I'm told that I won't get back my shipping & handling money for something that I did not order!! oh yeah, & it will take them 4 to 6 weeks to give me my money back-but it didn't take 4-6 wks. for them to take my money so why should I have to wait a whole month and then some to get my money back?!! Oh but then the story changes and all of a sudden they can give me back my shipping and handling fees in the same day if I don't cancel and put my account on hold.. My point is I am very upset that you use your credit card to order something ONCE and then they use that to "GET" you..Under the terms in which I ordered this product was falsly advertised- and if someone wants to cancel then let them cancel things like this shouldn't be such a hassle. I ordered a SAMPLE I did NOT join their club but when you order the SAMPLE they apparently enroll you themselves which is wrong. I am ticked and I want my money back like tomorrow not in 4-6 weeks.

This is more of a complaint than an endorsement.  However, I still use the scrub occasionally.  So, this information serves to explain my results with the product. I ordered ProActiv Solution because, throughout the year, I get acne on my forehead (it comes in waves).  So, I thought I'd try the product because the ingredients made sense.  Even today, I still get periodic acne flares. So, I did what everyone else does, I used all three products (but I only used it once a day).  For the first week, I saw noticeable clearing, but the lotion does sting from the AHA.  Over the next 6 months, I continued to use the regimen (still once a day).  After about 4 months in, I noticed the effects were beginning to diminish.  I don't know if that effect was due to the product changing formulation (I'd been through several orders) during that time.  However, at the end of 6 months of use, I was having acne worse than when I started (and it wouldn't go away).  As a side note, I also noticed that when you let the lotion dry out, that it becomes very waxy and quickly realized that that would happen on the skin.  So, I stopped using the lotion. After I stopped using the lotion and only used the toner and scrub, my skin began slowly clearing up again.  So, I attributed the acne flare to the supposedly non-comedogenic lotion. I used that regimen for another 4-5 months (not very regularly because I didn't want to flare).  That helped somewhat, but not nearly as effective as it was the first week after I used it. So, I layed off the product for several months to let my skin rest.  After that, I tried the product again and practically got a chemical burn from the AHA in the toner where that had never happened before.  So, I stopped using the toner (remember I had already stopped using the lotion). So, at that point, I was only using the scrub.  To this day, I still use the scrub.  This is the best part of the system (and really why the system works at all).  The toner and lotion are really pointless. My assessment of ProActiv.  The product works as long as you don't overuse the product (and you're not sensitive to the ingredients).  You should always test a small patch prior to using it all over (a lot of people react negatively to Benzoyl Peroxide and AHA.. especially when combined together).  The scrub is the best for clearing.   The AHA toner is worthless as is the repairing lotion (which, at least for my skin) was not non-comedogenic as they claim. I firmly believe the skin gets used to the products and the effectiveness of the product deminishes over time to the point where it is ineffective.  Worse, it appears that the skin can be come sensitized to the products so that smaller and smaller amounts can make the skin flare up. At this point, I have found another product which is equally as effective on my skin without the negative side effects.  It's a one step solution and it works a heck of a lot faster than ProActiv (clears things up in 1-2 days rather than 1-2 weeks with ProActiv). As far as their club membership goes, I didn't have any problems with this part of it.  But, I got out of the club long ago and whenever I need something, I just call and order specific items (the scrub).  I still occasionally use the scrub, but that's it.  Would I order the product again?  No, but only because I have found a single step product that works better and doesn't have all the negative interactions that ProActiv has. My recommendation is to be careful when ordering this product.  The product itself can work, but your success may be limited and the effectiveness diminishes over time.  If you have sensitive skin, then the AHA can cause burning and redness (which may end up being a chemical burn).  So, always test a very small spot before mass application. Another side note, after using the scrub, be sure to rinse your face thoroughly and completely.  The peroxide in the scrub will act as a bleach on colored bath items (towels, bath mats, etc).  I speak from personal experience as I have several bleach spots on towels and on rugs.  So, I highly recommend using this product with white towels only (and do not use it over carpeting or other bleachable items).  Otherwise, your favorite towels (or the carpet) will likely end up bleached in spots from the peroxide. A final side note.  The ProActiv products have a shelf life yet do not have expiration dates on them (and they should). The products are effective as long as they are fresh (especially the scrub).  I have found that if the products get to be two or more months old that new products should be purchased (and toss the old ones).  This explains the reason for the club membership.  They already knew that the products have a shelf life and need to be renewed.  But, of course, they don't tell you this in any of the literature or on the infomercial.

I've been using Proactiv for four months now. When I started I had maybe 3 or 4 pimples. Since I've been using the product my acne has tripled! I have never had acne like this before. The toner stings and they tell you this is normal. The product overall has completly irritated my skin. I still use it in hopes of clear skin. I keep telling myself, it hasn't been long enough, it's not going to heal overnight, but c'mon I was better off without the product. So now I know it's a lie,a marketing scam. My first clue should have been when my boyfriend ordered it for me, read his credit card number and they never asked him for his name, he had to actually say "well, do you want a name on that credit card number I just gave you?" They are fast talkers on the phone, and they should all be ashamed of themselves! I switched over to using a mint julep masque (only $3!) and I still use the renewing cleanser for its bead like texture in hopes of exfoliating my skin, but I think the only thing worth saving in the Proactiv package is the lotion and that is only until I find one that is better. In short since I started the other product my acne has relaxed and my face feels softer than it has in months.I see results and thats what speaks to me, so if you're having thoughts about purchasing proactiv, allow my $147 mistake be a lesson to you, I am going to cancel right now!

Proactive burns like hell!! I thought it would work eventually, I have friends that say it works. My doctor says that most treatments take 4-8 weeks to get results. I tried this painful stuff for 3 months and it never did what they said it would.  I stopped using it and found Loma Lux Acnepill. It is a pill and I don't have to suffer the burning cream that most treatments have. I started seeing results after only 2 weeks and would recommend this to everyone. It was expensive compared to most treatments in the store but it's easy and it works.

I tried this product because I had minor break-outs.  I thought It would work, but it did the opposite and my break-outs got worst.  Hoping that things would get better I kept using the product for 4 months, I was wrong.  I called the company and cancelled my membership.   My mom noticed my break-outs and told me to see her dermatologist.  After 3 days of using the prescribed medication I noticed a big differance.  My pimples were almost gone.  With regular check ups and real medications my face is free of pimples and better looking than ever.  Proactiv sucks!

The infomercials stress how great these products are because they are non-irritating??  Wrong!  After only a few days of using the system, I had such terrible red welts and burning that I had to get a prescription cream to heal my face.  When I told the doctor what I had used, he confirmed what I should have known:  Any regime that uses an abrasive, plus the active ingredients of benzoyl peroxide, AHA, sulfer, and salacylic acid *all at the same time,* is much to strong to be safe for most people's skin.  Alone, none of them has to be a problem, but all at once, they are a recipe for a chemical burn!  Please DON'T try this system if your skin is even remotely sensetive.  And I wouldn't recommend it even if your skin isn't.
