SMC is horrible I tried it out and it was nothing but nightmares from the moment I picked up the phone to the moment I canceled. Their stuff is nothing but poorly crafted garbage. I'm holding in my hand an "educational toy" made in china (probably by children getting paid 2 yen an hour) It is extremely poorly made the polygons on it are not even the same size as the others and the wood isn't smooth I've gotten splinters from it just by handleing it I would never give this "toy" to a child. Not to mention on their website it says some of these items may contain lead like yea I feel really comfortable with that. So yea if you see the SMC infomercial come on TV please do everyone a favor and turn it off.

I purchased the SMC kit almost 2 weeks ago. I called the first time to cancel and the guy said let me "extend" your trial period for 10 days and go try it some more. I agreed. Today I called and the sales man said after I told him over and over I was guaranteed 30days a refund he said fine. I ask him about the $30 that came off my cking act for the website that wasnt supposed to come on for another 2 weeks. He said the refund was only for the kit and nothing more. I guess I am lucky if I am out only the $30 but he also said it wasnt neccessary to mail back the kit. I could keep it.

Complaint regarding SMC to Kevin Thanks for the tip. It must be wonderful to be so intelligent.. What a gem. So tell us Kevin are you working for SMC or do you just get your kicks out of reading about people who are in trouble or have been swindled. Your life must be terribly dull to take time out of your day to read all the blogs on this site.
You have a great day; I'm sure you will.

Well guys, after reading everything that peope on here have gone through, I am truely sorry that you all had toe experience it. Kindred to everyone, I have been a victim of these kind of scams before; SMC isn't the only company out there that is pulling this kind of stunt; there's Doba, and all other "dropshipping wholesale providers" out there that will pull this kind of stunt. One thing I have learned is that a legit TRUE WHOLESALER will NEVER sell to just an ordinary person. A TRUE WHOLESALER WILL ALWAYS REQUIRE AN INDIVIDUAL TO HAVE A TAX ID NUMBER AND A BUSINESS ID NUMBER BEFORE THEY EVEN CONSIDER THEM AS A BUSINESS PARTNER. I hope everyone that got scamed by SMC, DOBA, or ANY OTHER "DROPSHIPPERS" were able to get at least some of their money back.

Kevin, thanks for the tip. I am very happy you are smart enough not to get in a spot and that you never make a mistake. Clearly you are a gem. We all need to follow this wonder man's example. So who do you work for SMC or do you get your kicks out of other people's pain. Have a great day - I'm sure you will.

Today I saw the informercial for the first time. I was interested so called the company. All I wanted was an opportunity to see the merchandise. I could tell the custrep was reading from a script so I knew immediately I would be unable to ask specific questions. I called because the infomercial clearly stated info was FREE and investment was limited to less than $25.00. It soon became clear both these claims were false. I already have a website, and I already process credit cards. All I wanted was to see the merchandise. The custrep wasn't very skilled, so when he asked is it fair to ask for a credit card I said NO! I haven't seen the merchandise. I politely asked him since I didn't want to become a member, could I have the name of a member in my community to call, he said no. Do you understand? This rep "TURNED DOWN" my request to find a local SCM vendor! Like everyone else - I've been scammed before so I immediately yet politely told the rep, "This isn't for me."
I would like to let you know, I've been self-employed selling air conditioning for over 25 years. In all my years, my suppliers never asked me for money up front, or ever asked for a credit card. Most companies are thrilled to work with an enthusiastic person willing to promote their products. I've had manufacturers loan me equipment for shows, give me advertising media, have their salespeople help me handle home-shows, their salespeople take me to lunch to give me pointers, and even had a bank offer to let me set up a display in their lobby. You don't need to pay someone else to do these things. Don't be afraid of your creative ideas. Good luck.

I invested $314 in SMC for which I was told (on the phone) that I'd get $200 in coupons for products & a $50 gift certificate. I got $100 in product coupons & that was it! No one knew anything about any gift certificate. No point in complaining as it is totally useless. I got a runaround.
I finally decided to use the $100 coupon to purchase product. This way I could test it out to see if they'd sell. First off, they won't sell for SMC's "suggested" retail price. The products are very poor quality. One item broke shortly after removing it from the box.
Also, the coach I was promised was nothing more than a VERY poor sales person who didn't know how to call on time. Obviously, other's peoples time meant nothing to her. I went thru 2 coaches & they were both USELESS. Their names were Cassandra & Kim Merten. Neither were willing to take responsibility for their actions either. They had tons of excuses. The first, Cassandra, was out & out rude, blaming 1st me & then the receptionist at SMC. I was assured by Lauren (next person I spoke to), who supposedly was a supervisor, that the 2nd coach, Kim was better - NOT SO. 90 days FREE coaching is a huge joke - on me this time.
I learned my lesson the hard way. If anyone decides to start a class action suit, please let me know. SMC needs to be put in it's place. It seems that it used to be a decent company that has gone bad because of greed.
Last, I don't need to hear from those self righteous individuals who want to tell me that I should've checked them out first. Obviously, I should have - no need to state the obvious...

I started with SMC this year. The main thing they dont tell you or show you is the exact merchandise they carry and wholesale to their customers. This is the main reason that i joined the program. If the products were all over the tv screen everyone that saw the infomercials would not do business with me because they would know my source and where to get it at my price. The infomercials do not provide much info so that the people selling the products are protected. so lets stop whining that we cant know everything up front and use some comon scense.

I am not an actual victim of these scammers as I am intelligent enough to look them up before sending my credit card information to them, but I really wanted to comment on what I've read from the people complaining so far. First of all, stop using the internet to download porn and start using it to look up these sort of businesses before agreeing to anything. Seriously, if you have the means to get online to complain about such scams, then you obviously had the means to do some research. Honestly, you wouldn't just hand out your credit card info to a stranger you meet on the street...and common sense SHOULD tell you that you shouldn't give out your credit card info to a stranger just because he's on the T.V. Seriously, with all the gullibility on this message board, it sickens me that I'm spending my days working at a crap job when I could just be pulling a scam like this that works with enough loopholes that it's not only legal but has the BBB stamp of approval! Seriously people, god gave you a brain...use it, and I feel zero sympathy for every single one of you. Enjoy feeling like a fool.
6/5/2008 - Banker writes:
Hello all,
I am not sure if you are aware of this but you don't have to pay these people. Most credit card companies will refuse their payment if you call your bank. If it already posted call them and tell them that you did not authorized it and we will take it off. If it is from your checking account you can always have the bank change your account number so they will get "account closed". From there, let them spend money to find you. Make sure you send the cancellation letter anyway no matter when you cancel. Please remember for the future, there is no get rich quick scheme. If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.

I've seen the SMC infomercials on TV many times and finally thought it might be something I could do to make enough income to make ends meet. The infomercials cater to people with low finances.I didn't tell my husband because we're financially strapped and we're watching every penny and I was afraid my husband wouldn't agree to giving SMC a try. I never checked the website or BBB or anything because I trusted Tom Bosley (I'm such a sucker).I made the phone call. The rep said it would cost $39.95 after s&h and he stressed that I must cancel within 30 days to get a refund. However, he did not indicate that if I did not cancel within 30 days that I wuold be obligated to pay a balance of over $400! In fact, since I never went to the website I had no idea that the the $39.95 was just the first of 12 payments. He never mentioned an annual amount or a yearly contract. Before I got the kit, I got emails saying my website is ready and something from e-merchant. I had no idea what was going on. I was charged the hosting fee. Anyway, like many of you, I received the kit 2 weeks later and looked over the items and information. Unfortunately, I didn't read every single word in their policy and was not aware that I would owe for an entire years membership if I didn't cancel in 30 days. Once I spoke to the coach and the so-called $25 investment shot up to over $3,000 - I hesitated and told her I'd have to think about it. I understand to make money you must spend money and it requires time and hard work to develop a biz. But once I realized I didn't have the time or money to do so, I shouldn't be forced to continue to pay for the rest of the year. I was basically "in the biz" for 2 months. I don't expect that money back, but I shouldn't have to pay for 10 more months!! It seems as if there's nothing I can do. If anyone forms a class action suit, please let me know. I'll join you.

They don't listen a word when I try to explain I want to cancel for 5 monts now! Even they sent my cancelation letter back! I don't know what to do anymore!
HEEEELP!

To the person named Henry who posted on 5/26/08, people are complaining because SMC is misleading. I have watched the informercial many times now and they are always using testinmonials that show people who put down $25 and now they are doing well. The informercial is aimed at people who don't have much but are willing to invest a small amount of money in something like this. Being charged thousands of dollars, most times, unknowingly, is wrong. Please keep in mind, not everyone is you and these people's complaints are legit.
5/26/2008 - Henry writes:
I don't know what people are complaining about. First off, as with any business, this only works if you want it to work. I have already recieved several orders, had them sent with only one complaint about a damaged product. It was replaced promptly by smc, without any charges. They have not been dishonest, there was no high pressure sales pitch. They don't get a "cut" of the products you sell. The cost you pay for the product is listed in the member price list, that you recieve with your kit when you order. Anyone who thinks that any company is going to give away their products is daft, and anyone, who thinks that they are going to get started with this and not have to invest time, and yes a little money, is not very serious about having a business. Nothing in life is free. I personally am doing very well with this company and have plans for a very lucrative future with them.

MY HUSBAND PURCHASE THE MATERIAL JUNE OF 2007. WE ONLY GOT THE KIT IN THE MAIL AND SMC HAS BEEN TAKING OUT MONEY EVERY SINCE. MY HUSBAND HAS CALLED SMC AND ASK THEM TO STOP TAKING MONEY OUT OF OUR CHECKING ACCOUNT. IT HAS NOT STOPPED. THEY ARE TAKING OUT 39.00 DOLLARS AND 29.00 4 TIMES EVERY MONTH. WE HAVE NEVER GOT ANY OF THE PRODUCTS. MY HUSBAND HAS EVEN ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THE PAYMENTS STOPPED AND SMC HAS TURNED IT OVER TO COLLECTIONS.HOW DO YOU STOP THIS COMPANY AND GET ALL YOUR MONEY BACK? ANY ADVICE WOULD HELP.

My story is similar to all of the complaints. SMC promises a lot and delivers on nothing. I got my kit. Opened it and immediately knew it was a mistake. The telemarketer had said there would be a some brochures and everything else to get started. That was not true, there was one pitiful looking catalog. It was made of low quality paper and had pictures of low quality junk, not name brand items as the telemarketer had said. I have seen nicer stuff at the Dollar Tree! I called the number for cancellation and of course never got through. I sent the cancellation letter as directed and two weeks later my card was charged another fee. This company is a rip off. Tom Bosley should be ashamed to endorse this company but I guess when you are a washed up old television actor you will do anything for money. What ever you do please do not join this company. YOu will regret it and lose money! If anyone is interested in a class action suit I would be interested also. Does anyone know how to get one started?

I was just going to sign up for this when I came across this site. Thank you all for sharing and posting.
The bad thing is this site has 5-6 pages of complaints, but not even 1 full page of defends. Wow, this site has helped! I cannot believe how horrible these people are!

Call me a cynic, but this infomercial was on TV in the background while I was finishing up some work. When I paused from my work and heard the pitch, I immediately Googled "smc scam" and up popped this website. One of the reasons I did this was because I assumed the quality of products would be crap when I saw that "top selling" Noah's Ark birdsnest and heard them say flea markets are good places to sell their stuff. I hate to say it people, but if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

I am glad that I came across this website. I was seriously thinking about SMC and after reading these stories and receiving high pressure sales calls from SMC, I have decided not to pursue this venture. This past week I received a phone call and the young lady was very hard bent on getting me to sign up right then and there. I told her that I wanted to take my time, do research and I wasn't one to do anything impulsive. She told me that she couldn't believe that I was not ready to sign up and give her a credit card number and that SMC, with over 60 years was a sure thing. If it is such a sure thing, then why the high pressure sale? Anyhow, after many minutes of buring up valuable cell phone time, she said good-bye and hung up. About an hour later, I received another high pressure call from SMC. I couldn't believe it. This guy was more high pressure than the first. Finally, it seemed he got fed up with me, said, have a good day and hung up. Funny, not one person could answer a simple question until I spent the money to get the kit and get assigned to a coach. I'm sorry, I think I will pass on SMC. I don't appreciate the high pressure sales.
