Purchased one of the disks online using a prepaid debit card. Never received the product, asked for a refund, customer service said they had no record of my order.

I don't have much to say except I agree with all I have read about this product and its practices. When I ordered the first product it was because I did want it and had no problem with that charge. I then started receiving the additional products and when I called the company found I had signed up for the continuing products. Shame on me for not reading the fine print but even more shame on Video Professor for shady practices. It may be legal but what a disgusting dirt bag that guy is and his company shows the worst side of US companies.

The so CALLED VIDEO PROFESSOR IS A HUGE SCAM. THAT BALDIE Fake Teeth, John Scherer is working with the worst marketing tactics there are. Don't even try to return as their customer service dept. will treat you like you are stupid. I saw the Video Professor TV ad stated I could get a free computer learning CD for a shipping cost of $6.95. After 8 days I was charged $189.95 can you believe? $189! soon after a huge box arrives with the lesson a free lesson a mouse, a pad and all this crap I did not need. After receiving it I found that I did not need it. I called to cancel and their customer service DID NOTHING to help me but yet offer me ANOTHER PRODUCT to try. I am not bothering I hanged up. I filed a dispute today with my credit card as well. CANCEL YOUR CARD SO THEY DONT CONTINUE WITH CHARGES! If not you will find yourself with overlimit charges by this Free CD or Overdraft if you used your DEBIT CARD. I am going to contact the BBB, the Direct Marketing Association and the State's Attorney General about their misleading and fraudulant practices. Fooling a disabled veteran is no way to go. Bastards!

I ordered [] at the advertised price of $6.95 and was initally charged $3.30. I used a debit card on an account with a low balance. In about 10 days I received a notice from my bank of an overdraft payment of $129.95. I called video professor and was told that I had in fact authorized the transaction when I placed my order via the internet, the only problem was I had ordered by phone and told the lady I could and would produce the records. She then agreed to make the return. It has not happened. One week went by and I received another 3 part lesson I had not ordered. I marked the package refused, and had the Post Office return it. I will be filing a small claims action against John W. Sherer and Video Professor next week. All of these testimonials will be submitted in evidence. You see even though he id located in Colorado, the California long arm statutes will subject him to California law.

My wife wanted to do eBay, and although I am otherwise computer literate, I know next to nothing about selling on eBay. I had just seen John pushing his eBay CDs on TV and thought, Why not? I'll tell you why... Ordered and stood fast saying no to the hard sell sales pitch for so many products I can't remember them all. I focused on saying, No! and got through it without committing to anything except the eBay discs. Yay! Got the order and life happened and I didn't get around to calling to return the disc until the day after my 10 days. OK. They charged my card. My fault. But I did get the RMA and promptly returned the discs. I then waited two weeks, and looked at my card online, no refund. Called customer service. Yep, they got the disks back. No, the refund hadn't been processed. But, she would see to it. I waited another week. Checked the card, no refund. Called again, checked my records. She doesn't understand what happened but she would get her supervisor to look into this. OK. Perhaps looking into this doesn't mean resolving the issue. I wait another week and call again. She is so sorry, and probably so, I'll bet SHE doesn't get a cut of the interest on my money. Anyway she is going to have her supervisor run down there and hand carry my refund authorization. Wait a week, no refund. I had no idea there was the Ladies Room next to accounting. I hope the authorization backed up their toilet! Next call the young lady fills out the form while I am on the phone with her. Wait a week, no refund. Call again, and this time the refund is, down there. Was there yesterday. It should be posted to your card tomorrow. Today is tomorrow. No refund. I'll call again tomorrow (I have the patience of Job) if the refund isn't on my card and probably threaten legal action. MY thought... John and company likely take the position that they WILL make money on every transaction. First, they make getting a refund extremely difficult with the thought that some (most?) will give it up as a bad experience and chalk it up as tuition on a life lesson. This keeps the cash flow safely wherever my refund is. Second, they will keep a certain level of funds waiting in an interest bearing account for as long as they believe they can get away with it. Yes small potatoes but it all adds up. Bottom line. Good product. Inexcusably bad customer service for returns. I believe that NO organization is this bad. This type of horrible responsiveness can only be planned. Their ads are absolutely misleading!

After reading some of the horror stories about V/Professor I see that my story isn't much different. How it went. YOU have won a $50.00 gift cert to Chille's, my fav, just choose from the following list and buy from one the listed companys, Video Prof was my selection, free lessons U only pay S/H of $6.95 Wow sounded great. Gave my CC # 7/24/2008 charged $3.69? Received lessons, didn't really have time to open until I noticed another charge 7/12/2008 for an additional $189.95. I'm on the phone with V/P rep and she explains to my that a booklet in the box reads ,READ this First explaining the charge for the 3rd lesson. Mind you I am opening the the box as we speak. Behold no paper with the words Read this First. Her Responce DUH we will send you free of charge Blah Blah if I pay the extra charge. on & on

About 3 years ago, I purchased the basic Video Prof Windows lesson for my 75 year old mother. When I ran the installer, it automatically replaced my mother's ISP with some other ISP that Video Prof was promoting. It took me about 2 hours to get her original ISP working again. When I called the company to complain, they essentially told me that the new ISP was a promotion, and I should be happy that Video Prof provided this valuable service! I threw away the CD, telling my mother that it contained a virus. By the way, I hear many of the Defenders of this company saying things like Yes they try to pitch stuff, but Just Say No. It's obvious to me that you people have never cared for an elderly family member, one who easily falls prey to leeches like Video Prof. Also by the way, there are news articles online that describe lawsuits that Video Prof is issuing to anyone who complains on the web. Sites like Wikipedia have given away the IP addresses of complainers to Video Prof's lawyers. Fortunately this site has held true to their promise of privacy, and refused to provide IPs' to Video Prof's lawyers. Kudos to this site... bravo.

Scherer is a disgrace. He conned my Grandma into the free Windows lesson. He preys on the elderly especially, his geriatric [] is retiring by robbing others of their social security! First off, she endured 35 minutes of the phone people trying to sell her ALL of his other products. She managed to somehow only agree to the one lesson, confirmed it was 6.95 and she wanted NOTHING else, ever. Cool. Card charged. Within a week, TWO $129 charges also appeared. One thing came in the mail, internet security suite crap. The other lesson never even came. I am a smart girl and was absolutely ferociously mad that those dirty [] exploited my grandma. I called in. I was assured that it would be ok, they would refund her if I sent the products back (a bit of an issue since one never even arrived). They assured me they would refund both anyways and no future orders would be charged. But, lo and behold, two more were. AND the first two were not refunded. I called again and was told that they had decided not to honor my request because (though my grandma had told them expressly that I was doing this on her behalf) I was not her and it would be illegal without Grandma's permission, mind you, the same permission she already gave. Repeat AGAIN. Refund promises, two more lessons. No refunds. Grandma couldn't pay her phone bill that month. It got cut off because they refused to refund almost $1000 of fraudulent charges despite the fact that she had even mailed back all the lessons. That was IT for me. I added her to my cell phone family plan and talked to my boyfriend, who happens to be a county prosecutor where I'm from. I called in and had Grandma ask for the legal department. She informed them that her lawyer would speak on her behalf, notifying them that we would be suing in small claims court if restitution was not made in 3 days. After about 10 minutes of his time with the legal department (he offered to fax the papers he had drawn, asked where to direct the claim, explained what we were suing over and how it was well within our state law, yadda), they quickly decided that perhaps a refund was in order. It posted two days later. Oh, and the best part, before they hung up, I told them to apologize to my grandma. It took me asking (or, uhhh, demanding) 3 times, but the CSR eventually did tell her he was extremely sorry for any hardship caused by the ordeal and that he was very happy that they were able to finally make it right. They ended up sending her a free Excel lesson with a VERY short Sorry for your dissatisfaction, we hope you will consider us in the future note. I think I gave it away at a garage sale soon after. SUE THEM IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT. You can draw the papers yourself. It's relatively easy, very inexpensive, and once you have the papers drawn, they will do ANYTHING to placate you. I threatened to sue them and they didn't give an absolute S--T. But, when I had a lawyer call them, their tune changed VERY fast! Not everyone is fortunate enough to get a lawyer's time for free like I did. Seriously, once they know your threats are not idle (KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT) it will help! My lawyer bf never ended up faxing or filing anything. He recited a few statutes, discussed the law failings of implied consent, touched on small claims court law and applicability, and VOILA. Look it up, be informed, and stand up against this JERK and his SCAMS!

my story is same as others, i thought i was getting a lesson for 6.95. find out it really is 129.95.It sat on my desk for weeks(unopened) before i realized i only had 10 days to return it. I called them and after threatening to call attorney gen. of co.they agreed to a refund, although i have not recieved it as yet.

I called to order "for free" the CD on digital photography. I had no idea they sold this product in 3 levels, and I was told that not only could I get Level 1 "for free," Video Professor would also give me Level 2 "for free" and send me Level 3 at a cost of $129(?) which I could return within 10 days if I didn't like it. I am always wary of bait and switch offers where suddenly I am going to pay a lot of money if I don't send something back in time. I said that I would be happy to take Level 2 as well as Level 1, but that I didn't want Level 3 because I didn't want to be put into a time crunch if I decided I didn't like it. Ultimately they would only send me Level 1 since I would not agree to "trying out" Level 3. I received Level 1 which is so basic as to be worthless. I haven't seen Levels 2 or 3, but I suspect all three levels should be a single course, not 3 courses. The whole business is a scam.

8/2/2008 - Chuck writes:
Total ripoff. gives the impression that you have 30 days to try, clearly stated on a sheet attached to the box of CDs. When you call to return they tell you that you only have 10 days. Stay away from this company!

I called about the ebay disk offer. I was given a high pressure pitch to try some other products free and if not satisfied return before ten days. If not returned they were only $129 each. After insisting they send nothing extra a very miffed rep agreed to send just the ebay disk. I received it and another disk for free plus $6.95 S&H. When I installed the disk, it installed a program (without my permission)to keep me from copying the free program. Not a problem other than it was done without my permission. After installation I could not access the web so went to sys restore. (I'm out $6.95, back to where I was in sys, no biggie.) That's where I found the major problems. The disk had locked down my sys restore so I could not restore prior to it's installation. I have since learned that it has put entries into my registry that I can't get rid of. My OS (Windows XP Pro) is still crippled from the incident and am considering complete format and re-installation. 1. Friends don't let friends drive drunk. 2. Friends don't let friends install AOL. 3. Friends don't let friends use Video Professor.

I thought that was too easy, I would have contacted the BBB. That would of gotten his attention. Anyone buy this stuff should contact the BBB first.

I ordered the free learning CD Excel. 6.95 was charged on my card and then 80.00 more was charged. I tried to talk with someone on the order line for Video Professor but no one would discuss this matter so I emailed and expressed my disappointment with what had happened and I have not received a reply after almost two years.

I ordered the product from VP for $6.95 and then they charged my card $129.95 in addition of the $6.95. This is a scam and now I am having all kinds of problems getting video professor to stop sending me product I did not order and charging me for it

I ordered the free ebay software, and agreed to pay $6.95. The CDs work, so the question above is not relevant. When my visa bill arrived, it had a charge of $89.95! Of course they 800 number provided did not have an option of talking to a human, but only

I was assured if I tried Video Professor [], and was not happy I could return it any time for just the shipping charge of $6.95. I fell for it, and placed the order. When I received the product and attempted to install I was informed that a security product would be installed first, then the [] material would be installed. There was no information about the security product Video Professor wanted to install, either with the package, or on the Internet. I stopped the installation, called the company and was given a terminal run-around. Finally, I told them I wanted to return the product, and wanted an RMA number. Instead I received another 15 minutes of high pressure sales pitch which began to upset me. I demanded an RMA number and was given one and was assured no more than 14 days until I would receive my refund. a 14 day time limit I packed the product along with another Internet Security Tools package, which I did not order. Then I noticed my Credit card had be hit for $129.95. I was patient knowing with the holiday and all it might take a little longer. THEN I received another package from Video Professor Protect Yourself Online, and was once again billed for another $129.95. The salesman on the phone was made very away that I was a disabled senior citizen, a survivor of brain and lung cancer, and that I needed for him to slow down. You might say I blew up. I e-mail John Scherer, CEO of Video Professor and have not received a reply. He has two days, then I'm going to fire the big cannons.

I Ordered the Windows DVD for my mother to use. Honestly I did not do my do diligence until after I noticed a pending charge $129.95(Old Johnny boy has raised his prices, must be due to the gas prices)on my credit card. I immediately called the CC company to dispute that and after I gort the run around from them I cancelled the card before good ole Johnny could sell me some more stuff. I went back to the VP website and dug into the fine print, but that only hints vaguely at what is about to happen. It is my own fault for biting on one of those infomercials.

I ordered a lesson from their web site. It arrived. I didn't expect it to be free because I wanted it. My credit card was charged. Then I noticed a second $6.95 charge on my credit card. I called and the person told me I should have read the small print about a subscription. I told her I didn't order or want a subscription. She gave me a return number and told me to make sure I didn't send it back as I received it but to make sure I wrapped it in brown paper or they would not accept it! Why?! Then it would take a few weeks to get my refund. After reading all these posts, I decided to just call my credit card company to dispute the charges. I feel their method of doing business borders on deceptive and I will certainly not do business with them again. I saw the Better Business Bureau report on them listing over 480 complaints and they still call them an accredited member! How many complaints before the BBB considers you non-accredited?

I bought Word Perfect from Video Professor about 15 years ago. Probably the first thing he ever had on TV. I thought at first, I was just ordering one eight track lesson. Then if I wanted another one they would send it to me. All of a sudden he sent the completed set. I think I had to pay around $200. to him. Now when I see him on TV it makes me sick. Maybe somehow people will not be ordering anything from him. Buy you a book rather than tying up all that money and ruining your credit.
